Collections

I think that the main reason that I have been struggling with the collections project is because being an overseas student has made me very concious of the fact that collecting means accumulation and this mostly means having space for storage or display. Due to the factors mentioned above I decided to start thinking about the smallest things I could collect and stumbled along Andrea Harner’s blog. After giving it more thought however I decided to take a different path and start collecting things that people once considered dear to them, but unfortunately ended up broken. I’m quite interested in the amount of feelings and energy we invest in material objects and why. Also, I think this collection touches on the theme of ‘nothing lasts forever’. This brings to mind the  impact of obsolescence, but even without it, there’s no way of protecting objects from certain external factors.
